These are the mega trends:

  • EEIG have increased above average – and are still increasing – in the field of cross-border co-operations like under the EU INTERREG programme, but also in the framework of the 6th and now also 7th EU Research Framework Programme.
  • Since 1st May 2004, the area within which EEIG can be launched has enlarged from 18 countries (EU 15 + EFTA/EEA) for 10 up to altogether 28. There is an ongoing interest in Central and Eastern Europe.
  • The framework of the internal constitution of the EEIG and its taxation rules will not be changed. Everything else would have been to the detriment of this legal formula.
  • The number of EEIG will continue to increase. Its place as an additional offer of a legal structure will be consolidated.

It is more and more difficult to compile the registered EEIG in the EU without gaps. Although there is a central EU-wide publication in the EU, the Official Journal S, there are some national authorities who just do not feed the Office of Official Publications, even if EEIG are registered. This is the reason of an undetected percentage of about 10-15% of all EEIG.

The Internet website of the European EEIG Information Centre is becoming more and more complete. In particular we are proud of a list of all existing EEIG since the end of 2003, including company names, websites and register details. Such a list must be taken care of. This is why we ask all EEIG to check this list and their presence on it, including all homepages. Any completions should be sent to eeig@libertas-institut.com.
