LIBERTAS – Europäische Zeitschrift – European Review – Revue européenne

Authentic, original, intelligent:

In the years 1984 – 1992 the quarterly „LIBERTAS – European Review“ has been edited by the predecessor of LIBERTAS – European Institute GmbH, the LIBERTAS Verlag (Publishing House). This paper had been of a very staunch European tendency, of conservative – liberal – christian-democrat – social-democrat – green-ecologist tendency at the same time, i.e. from a true European humanist background, and clearly outspoken against any form of extremism or fundamentalism. It had been a co-production by Hans-Juergen Zahorka, the founder of this paper in 1979 and later M.E.P. from 1984-1989, and the Hungary-born philosopher Dr. Laszlo (Ladislaus) Barlay, who however died in 1992. Still today, it is sometimes astonishing how this paper had looked into the future. From 1985 it invoiced and indicated its subscription rates in ECU, and many subjects were covered, free from stress of topical reporting, coming into European discussion only years later.
LIBERTAS – European Institute GmbH has decided to publish this gem amidst all other journals in the Internet. The paper, LIBERTAS – European Review, which needs multilingual readers, was never a subject of microeconomic calculations, and the staff from the years before 1992 never had time to launch any marketing for the paper. It was astonishing anyway that it had subscribers, several hundreds at the end of its course – and they were the crème de la crème of European and international thinkers, writers, speakers and researchers. The issues come from a time and a team where writing and editing of LIBERTAS – European Review was like in Mark Twain’s time as a journalist in Tennessee. We have the honour to publish here the years between 1984 and 1992.
